Clubs & Activities

Robotics is an afterschool club for students in 2^nd grade through 5^th grade who are interested in creating robots and writing code. Our Robotics club has learned how to build and code Dash, Dot, and Edison robots. Students use Edblocks and Scratch to write code for their robots.

X-PRESsions Bucket Drum Band is made of 4^th and 5^th grade students who are interested in drumming. In the Bucket Drum Band, students will learn how to hold drumsticks, how to find the beat in music and how to improvise. The students are encouraged to be creative as we also learn how to create different rhythms to call-and-response songs, chants, and even popular music today.

Our National Elementary Honor Society program allows students who excel academically and model exceptional responsibility to engage in activities that foster service and leadership.

Members of the NEHS provide service to our school in multiple ways. They help maintain the lending library on our campus to ensure it is clean, organized, and full of books for children in our community. In addition, they are in the beginning stages of reigniting a recycling program at Port Royal Elementary School.

Each third, fourth, and fifth grade classroom at our school has two ambassadors. Ambassadors are elected by their peers and will serve a 1-year term.

Our class ambassadors meet with Mrs. Goude and Mrs. Krebs each month to discuss learning, safety, and joy at Port Royal Elementary. Ambassadors discuss ways to improve our school in these three areas and then share these ideas with the other students in our class. In addition, they conduct school tours and welcome special visitors to our school making them feel welcome.

Crew is a great way for all students to be a part of something and feel included in team bonding. We have 4 crews that represent specific duties of a ship: Captains, Commissioners, Engineers, and Navigators. Students in kindergarten through fifth are placed into crews and work together to earn crew points. Teachers enter their crew points every Friday. Once a month, we also have crew rallies to celebrate the winning crew of the month and engage kids in fun activities to learn about positive character traits.  

Mariner of the month is a way to recognize students who show good character.  Students are nominated by teachers based on a specific character trait that they must show each month. Our school counselor teaches monthly lessons in how to show each trait.  Traits include honesty, self-control, and friendship.
