o School of choice window opened March 1st o Successful Video that included kids

o Students got to give feedback –

o Voting from the parents and teachers – Looked at the revised statements that received the most votes with some revisions
o SIC motioned to adopt this new vision and mission statement o Schoolwide planning for next year
o Renewal Plan –
student achievement goals on SC ELA and SC Math, SC Pass for 2021- 2022 and updated goals for 2022-2023
o Covid interrupted learning and we see a decrease in scores
o Read to Succeed Goal, Gifted and Talented Teacher Endorsements
o Student Achievement Data
▪ Kinder-2nd didn’t have goals on the original plan; we want to include them on the new plan (looked at Map / I-Ready)
▪ 3rd – 5th grade SC Ready adjusted goals with hopes of meeting the 5-year goal
o School Climate ▪ Will not use the same engagement survey
▪ Student survey – self management & self-efficacy (goal is to increase these)
▪ Teacher quality – Read to Succeed is controlled, it is a law
• GT and PBL which are in the current 2021-2022 plan are in teachers control, so they are difficult to require making it very difficult to support meeting these goal.
• Grant $750,000 support students connected to the military to help improve math and science skills – help enter the work force (REMICS)
• REMICS provide professional development, stem – will include during PLC and Professional Development Days (Controlled)
• Power point from meeting will be sent out for us to review (5 year and interim goal)
o Action Steps - Title 1 money – goals and idea
o Provide high quality math curriculum and instruction
o Data chats (standards, assessments)
o Tutoring / teachers and staff
o Field Experiences – grade level trips with charter bus
o Stem supplies
o Possibly add a behavior modification specialist -Parent Survey
o Parent and family engagement based on the Title I surveys completed so far show an increase in parent satisfaction. One area that did not score high was parent participation and being familiar with the school compact. We had approximately 50% return rate on these documents at the beginning of the year. We will brainstorm ways to make sure parents are reminded of the family engagement policy and school compact throughout the year. Parent participation was discussed, and we are hopeful for greater participation next year now that restrictions are minimized.
o Parents want - Educational materials for home-school connection which we will budget for in our parenting set-aside.
o School compact and family engagement policy – discussion/thoughts. Link for feedback will be resent in Mariner’s Message to parents, and it will be open for the remainder of the school year.
-Budget Allocations
o Behavior specialist – teachers and parents expressed it could be helpful; proactive – small group skills to work on skills prior to issues arising
o Professional Development – academic achievement and school climate

o Parents can get their volunteer badge – allowed to chaperone and volunteer at the school
New Business:
o In January, the staff looked at the Vision and Mission Statement
o Staff made some updated drafts of the statements
o Parents feedback – communicate with teachers about what their needs are, development of the kid’s character and education, lifelong skills, community involvement, engaging kids to be creative, collaborate with one another,
o Present the SC graduate, Beaufort County School District’s vision and mission statement, adopted in 2012 Port Royal vision and mission statement, Staff updated/revised vision and mission statements (3).

January 2022

Updates: Safety – SRO doing a great job, secured new speed limit (15mph) in front of the school – he’s doing a great job helping controlling traffic
Math night scheduled for Tuesday – due to spike in Covid we are having a virtual night. We are sending boxes of brownies for them to make at home, along with fun, family math activities. Kids get a prize for returning proof of participation
March – Read Across Port Royal
School of Choice is opening in March – spread the word (must fill out application – on website)
Wellness committee – focus on mental wellness, they are helping giving students and teachers ideas to help o Federal grant – fresh fruit and vegetables. Students get some daily. o DODEA grant - support military families ($750,000 spread over 5 year)
Math and stem activities (this is a planning year) SEB 3rd -5 th math see what we are working on -Finished Map, working on finishing I-ready

○ National Honor Society Ceremony
■ – 5th graders want to talk to 3rd – 4th about joining
■ -3 new inductees
o Class Ambassadors were elected (3rd – 5th)
o – met with Mrs. Goude, ideas about implementing to help kids keep safe and happy & what their role includes
o -possibly reach out to elected students’ parents about joining SIC committee
o Stem night was a success
o Math night for families happening in January
o Book Fair is going on
o Community has been donating to give all students a chance to shop
o Friday (Nov. 18) crew day, mariner of the month, and end of the water challenge drinking contest
o Pre-k planted a tree with Mrs. Reed’s dad
o social worker has started, transferred from Bluffton Middle
o help students with Thanksgiving & Christmas needs
o gift tree in foyer – sponsor a child
o coordinating tardiness and absents
o Wellness Committee – Kassie has joined the committee

Old Business
o Safety – speeding
o Officer has done a great job (speed monitor, giving tickets)
§ worked with the town to get the speed limit reduced to 15 mph when lights are flashing
o Dr. Holmes and SRO will be forming groups for students together
New Business
o SIC webinar
o Review of logistics of how SIC should be run, should be a parent led role rather than principal
o Need more parents to join this committee, more perspectives & feedback would be helpful
o With covid – hard to make connections with other parents
o Possibly small group activities to bring parents in and get active in the committee
o Possibly grade level nights, k-2 / 3-5, stage each level around the building/outside space
o Math night tentatively scheduled for Jan 25 (k-2) & 27 (3-5), discuss with family engagement group & teachers
o Covid cases in school have been low lately
-Dec 14 meet with Ambassadors – info from students for next meeting

○ Red Reading has begun – Read every day, get tokens for book vending
○ Falling into Stem – stem night virtual drive thru
○ Individuals can come visit and speak to classes
○ 3rd – 5th grade class ambassadors
■ 2 kids from each grade, election day
■ Students will vote for representative
■ Meet with admin – get to give ideas, involve student opinions

o Jackets are the biggest issue – some are available for those in need

○ Started the year with a Reset – relationships, engagement, stem, equity, tracking
○ Responsive classroom training
■ Teachers share different parts
o Stem lab has launched – done lots of exploring, students are enjoying
o Stem committee – planning event / family challenges / classroom challenges
o Ensuring things are equitable. Closing gaps, best practices
o Tracking, assessing students. Ensure are students are learning
o Data – SC Ready Assessments, SC Pass Scores – factors that have affected scores
o School Renewal Plan – review the one from last year; we need to set new goals for this school year – we don’t want to lower goals
o Covid update – last year we didn’t contact trace at all
o This year we’ve been affected – quarantining is happening more often
o Quarantined students are now able to zoom live
· Family stem night coming in October
· 9/11 assembly at school
