E-Learning

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The governor of SC announced on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, that the public schools closures are being extended, and that all schools will remain closed through April 30th. The staff at PRES is working very hard to revisit our instructional delivery methods and plan effective lessons for students to continue in their e-Learning. During this extension, we will be providing additional learning material for Pre-K , kindergarten, 1st grades, and 2nd grade students through the use of paper/pencil packets. For our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students, we will be issuing your student their BCSD HP laptop device to move to our online learning platform – Google Classroom. Please review the information listed below for more details on what to expect from our e-Learning platforms beginning Monday, March 30th.

  • Please ensure that you submit electronic pictures of your child’s completed packet from the first two weeks beginning Friday, March 27th. You may take a picture of the work on your cell phone and email it to your teacher, or send those pictures through the class messaging app that your teacher uses (Remind, Class Dojo, ClassTag, Bloomz, SeeSaw, etc.) will work also. Please, please, please have your students submit their completed work from the first packet. Non completion of these assignments will affect their 4th quarter grades.
  • Moving forward, teachers will send parents and students their assignments daily so the tasks are broken up into smaller segments.

  • Pre-K – 2nd grade families will receive a daily plan with their assignments listed and a daily checklist of things to make sure you submit.
  • Pre- K students should be expected to spend about an hour per day working on and practicing academic tasks.
  • Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade students should expect to spend about 2 hours per day focused on new learning and completion of academic assignments.

  • 3rd – 5th grade students will see their tasks in their Google Classroom outlined daily, and now that they are using their school issued device, connectivity with all of our regular apps and tools should work much better.
  • 3rd – 5th grade students should expect to spend about 3 hours per day engaged in academic content and e-Learning.

A big take-away for all us during this unexpected time of change is that we all have to do our part. The staff at PRES is committed to doing our part to provide engaging learning opportunities for your child that will continue to stretch their brains while they learn new content and information. We still have many grade level standards based instructional units that we must teach to your children. They must do their part and participate in the learning. Additionally, we appreciate the part that you, the parents will play, in supporting and assisting your child, in the best ways that you can, to fulfill their responsibilities. We do not know what the outcome of this uncertain time will be, but I don’t want any of our students to not earn grades during this 4th quarter that will impact decisions about what will happen next for them. Please make sure your child has time to complete their assignments every day.

If at any time you have questions, concerns, and/or feedback or suggestions regarding your students’ assignments and e-Learning, please share them with your child’s teacher, as they will be in constant contact and communication with you.

The staff at Port Royal Elementary School will miss interacting with your child daily at school, but we hope that you and your family remain happy, healthy, and safe until we are allowed to reconnect in person once again.
